FIELD STUDIES: INSTALLATION

Field Studies was developed as a collaboration between a non-fiction writer - Alexios Moore - and an artist - Rebecca Gee - to examine the process through which we create narratives based on internal and external stimuli. In this case, the genesis of this project is my memory of a field trip his class took to Plymouth Plantation in 1984.

Pilgrims and professional wrestlers, unreliable historical "narrators", dominate td my memory, spilling off the pages of my story and into the studio space where primary documents are integrated into the writing process and emerge as dislocated narratives, embossed in handmade paper.

The interaction of the wallpapered iconography, the text, and the video invites viewers to explore pliable associates and to produce their own narratives. The materials and processes incorporated in the work reflect the tension between the real and the imagined, the plastic boundary between fiction and non-fiction.

Field Studies was on view at the LMCC Open Studio Weekend, May 1-3, 2009.
